Project Outline

The National Media Museum worked with Sowerby Village Primary School on ideas based on journeys. Students explored methods and modes of transportation involved when going on a journey. After a mind mapping session as a class, discussing the various ways to travel around students divided into small groups to focus on a chosen mode. Students selected land, sea or air transportation and decided where their journey would take them. Cut out animation was chosen as the production method for a number of short films created by year 5 and 6 students. Backgrounds were created on A4 paper and separate cutout characters and vehicles were drawn. Students animated their work directly under the film camera, moving the cutout pieces frame by frame to create and animated sequence. Once they had completed their animation the students edited the pieces with Windows Movie Maker before adding sound effects and voiceovers using Audacity sound software.
