Project Outline
30 students from Year 8 worked with Cartwright Hall Art Gallery to produce their animated film.
The group visited the Gallery and created a short series of animated experiments with clay and mixed media objects to gain confidence and ideas to inform their class work.
In school the group drew inspiration from the sculptures seen at the gallery and the work of Muybridge shown to them by the visiting animation artist.
Students worked in small groups photographing a series of simple motions in the style of Muybridge.
Some chose sporting actions such as cricket while others chose driving and boxing. The resulting digital images were printed and photocopied for the students.
The photocopies were mounted on card and cut out before being animated in sequence as 3D objects (replacement animation) The students also carried out experiments in pixilation to include in their finished film.
The animator compiled the work and sound effects were added to create an original Muybridge inspired film.
