Watch the first animation

Project Outline

Hollingwood Primary School worked with Cartwright Hall Art Gallery to create animations with year 5 & 6 students.

The students worked on pixilation and cut-out animation during their visit to the gallery. Their theme was ghosts and shadows; they explored the idea of galleries as empty spaces that become filled with artefacts and exhibits, which are visited by the public who create shadows and footprints. The artefacts have a history and so does the gallery, it almost retains ghosts and shadows of all the people who have passed through it.

Students created cut-out feet and animated them walking through the gallery space, they also used their shoes as models and props, to suggest the many people who have passed through the space over time.

The groups’ pixilated themselves walking and moving through the gallery before editing their films with Windows Movie Maker.
