Learning outcomes
Animation can help deliver the following learning outcomes across the curriculum:
- Principles of storytelling, story structure, narrative, characters and settings (English)
- Media Literacy: critical evaluation, film grammar: cuts, pans, zoom etc. (English)
- Aesthetic principles of design, composition, contrast and visual symbols, motor skills, hand-eye coordination and ability to repeat drawings (Art)
- Creating a musical score and sound effects (Music)
- Understanding of multiplication, division and fractions as applied to film speed and frames per second (Maths)
- Laws and limitations of movement, forces, Newton’s Laws of Motion applied to animation (Science)
- As a technical tool/skill that can open the door to the rest of the curriculum (ICT)
For me it (animation) is one of the best learning tools as it requires much planning and organisation which is usually difficult for children. Animation requires high levels of ordered thinking, tolerance and communication skills. It is a wonderful leveller, as independent of academic ability; children find they can excel at the various skills involved in animation.
